Let’s be honest, organic reach isn’t what it used to be. Platforms like Facebook and Instagram are constantly tweaking their algorithms, and it’s getting harder to get your content in front of your audience without paying for ads.
But guess what? It’s not impossible! With a few strategic tweaks, you can still boost your organic reach and build a loyal, engaged community without breaking the bank.
Here are some of the most effective strategies I’ve seen work (and that I’ve personally used) to increase organic reach:
Build and Engage with Your Community
One of the best ways to increase organic reach is by nurturing an engaged community around your brand. This means creating content that your audience actually wants to engage with – think polls, questions or even starting conversations in the comments. Replying to comments or DMs and being active within your community (instead of just broadcasting content) is key to getting your audience to interact with your posts.
Repurpose Content Across Platforms
Make your content work harder for you! If you’ve written a blog post, why not turn that into a series of social media posts, a short video or even an infographic? You can also transform quotes or stats from your blog into eye-catching visuals for Instagram. Repurposing not only saves you time but maximises the value of each piece of content.
For example, turn a customer testimonial into a short-form video for TikTok or Instagram Reels, and use the same quote in a LinkedIn post targeting a B2B audience. It’s about taking the same core message and tweaking it for different audiences and platforms.
Optimise for Search Engines
Yes, even social media posts can be optimised for search engines. Rather than just relying on hashtags, focus on SEO techniques such as using the right keywords, optimising your captions and tagging the most relevant accounts. Search algorithms increasingly rely on keywords in your content, making it essential to think more like a search engine marketer than just a social media manager. Make sure your content uses terms your audience might search for and strategically tag people or businesses that can broaden your post’s reach.
Leverage User-Generated Content
User-generated content (UGC) goes beyond just re-posting a fan’s photo. Think about how you can encourage your customers to share their experiences in a more structured way, like asking for reviews, testimonials or even customer stories about a specific product or service.
You could even create a campaign around UGC – ask customers to showcase how they use your product in their daily life and turn the best submissions into an entire content series. This personal and authentic touch helps humanise your brand and engages your audience more deeply.
Consistency is Key
It’s better to post fewer, high-quality posts than to spam your followers with a ton of low-engagement content. Consistent, valuable content that resonates with your audience will naturally attract engagement, which the algorithm will love. Over time, this will lead to a gradual increase in organic reach.
Embrace New Features & Experiment
Staying on top of platform updates can give you a huge advantage when it comes to organic reach. For example, LinkedIn recently introduced a new video tab similar to Reels on Instagram. If you’re quick to jump on these new features, your content is more likely to be favoured by the platform’s algorithm.
The key is to test and trial new tools as they roll out and figure out what works for your audience. Whether it’s short-form videos, polls or stories, experimenting with new features can help you stay ahead of the curve and drive engagement.
